Surface Chemistry and Colloid Science (界面與膠體化學)
In this course the theoretical principles and considerations of both surface chemistry and colloid science will be discussed at a fundamental level. This course was intended to provide the background and basic theories involved in the formulation of pharmaceutical disperse systems, including long-range forces, Van der Waals attraction, electrical double layers, electric properties at interface, flocculation and deflocculation, free energy consideration of disperse systems and thermodynamic stability, criteria for steric stabilization, general stabilization mechanisms, kinetic stability of disperse systems, electrokinetics, diffusion, sedimentation, osmosis, and viscosity of dispersions.
Topics in surface chemistry, including capillarity, thermodynamics of liquid interface, surface film on liquid substrates, solid-liquid interface, adsorption from solutions, contact angle and free energy, and polymers at interfaces and their adsorption characteristics will also be covered.
Offered spring semester every year.
